Astec certified OSSA Fall Protection

Designed for:

Workers who go to height in the Oil Sands and Auxiliary Sites by Ft McMurray, Alberta. Syncrude, Albian Sands, Suncor, CNRL, Petrocanada, Husky, Imperial Oil may require this course. Employers who wish their staff to be trained to a high standard that relays the Code of Practice for the Oil Sands Safety Association.

Time:

8 hours plus

Physical Skills:

Lanyard retraction and brake test on Self Retracting Device,Inspection of fall protection equipment and harnesses, Donning and doffing of harness, Controlled Weight Transfer on a tripod or anchorage.

Theory:

Fall protection objectives, reasons for falls, statistics for disability and death from slips, trips and falls in Alberta workplaces, calculation of the physics of a fall – Free Fall Distance, Total Fall Distance and Calculation of Clearance, Vertical and Horizontal lifelines, ABCs of a Fall – Anchor, Body Harness, Connecting Devices. Fall Protection plan and rescue plan, Hierarchy of Controls. 5 modules includes scenarios, hazard assessment, suspension trauma, and swing fall.

Certification:

80% closed book exam to attain Fall Protection OSSA certification. Requirement for good English literacy and physically able to do Controlled Weight Transfer on a Tripod. 70%to 79% pass will attain regular Astec Fall Protection certificate, but not OSSA.

Special OSSA requirements:

Candidates must arrive on time and complete course in its entirety. Bring government issued picture i.d. English literacy is required to successfully complete closed book exam. Candidate must be in good physical condition to do Controlled Weight Transfer.

OSSA Fall Protection is an Astec Safety course (an OSSA licensed provider). The lead instructor – Arliss T E Levine, CRSP, CHSC,BA is with Allstar Enviro Safety as a trainer. She is an accredited contract instructor through Astec.
