COURSE OVERVIEW
This online Safety Excellence course helps Supervisors understand their role in supporting their health and safety management system. The four modules highlighted are :
- The Supervisor’s Role
- Conducting Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control at work
- Formally conducting Workplace Inspections
- Investigation of incidents and accidents
This is an online course and differs from the 2 day Leadership for Safety Excellence program.
COURSE OUTLINE
MODULE 1 – HIGHLIGHTING THE SUPERVISOR’S ROLE
Includes responsibilities in a safety system, related tasks,responsibilities under legislation, and corporate safety culture.

MODULE 2 – THE HAZARD IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT, AND CONTROL ACTIVITIES
Method to recognize safety hazards, conduct work activities assessments, and control the identified hazards.

MODULE 3 – HOW TO CONDUCT FORMAL WORKPLACE INSPECTIONS
Effective work site inspections; the difference between inspections and hazard assessments; and how to do proper observations, document your findings, and develop correct recommendations.

MODULE 4 – ACCIDENT/INCIDENT INVESTIGATION STEPS
Includes when and why investigations are necessary. In addition appropriate steps to follow when conducting an investigation are reviewed.

This course contains 13 technical hours forthe BCRSP Continuing Education Units .
BCRSP
This course may be eligible for 1.3 CEUs for Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) –These Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD Program) have a purpose of recertificating in maintaining the BCRSP certification. WWOC Program
Water and Wastewater Operators’ Certification Program (WWOC Program) approved 0.8 CEUs. If you wish to apply to Operators practicing under the WWOC Program. See www.alberta.ca/water-wastewater-operator-certification.aspx for the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators’ Certification Guidelines.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Once you pass, a certificate of completion will be available to download and print. We recommend this program to be retaken every 3 years from the course completion date indicated on the certificate.
