subcontracts. The essentials in this course builds on the Construction
Law course from Buildforce, but it is not a prerequisite to take it.

enforceable.
Learn some key legal principles regarding
general contracts and construction contracts.
Emphasize why contracts are important in the
construction process.
Differenciate between a “bidding”
contract and the actual construction contract.
Discern the difference between
a letter of intent, a purchase order, as well as
a construction contract.
Learn the structure, approach, and key
provisions in a typical stipulated/fixed-price or
lump-sum construction contract and
subcontract.
Know how to read and understand a traditional
construction contract as well as a subcontract.
Be aware of major causes of construction
disputes. Learn why standard industry contract
forms can reduce the risk of such disputes.
Determine which types of construction contracts to choose
in terms of project delivery and pricing methods.
